The French Association of Mechanics was established at the instigation of the High Committee for Mechanics with the decisive support of the French Federation of Mechanical Engineering Industries. Its main objectives is to ensure greater consistency and efficiency of the mechanical engineering scientific ,and technical associations’initiatives. When AFM was established the Association Universitaire de Mécanique and the Société Tribologique de France formed its core and decided to fully merge into it. Some societies have a vast proportion of their members who are also members of AFM. Other societies have established strong contractual links with AFM which for instance, lead to a joint international representation. Other societies manage projects and events for mechanical engineers together with AFM. The following societies which all have a large membership (several hundreds of members) and an important program of activities participate, on a very regular basis, in AFM’s operations.
